I Never Had A Prom Night

My high school classmates and I are currently having a good time spamming each other's inboxes. A former classmate posted our old 4th Year High School class photo in his Facebook album and tagged everyone. As of today, total comments are at 370 and counting. It's nice to reconnect with people you have grown and matured with.

Can you find me?

I can say I really had a good time during high school. 'Twas the time when I was fully able to let my hair down and forget about the stress of having to maintain my grades for honors. I was Valedictorian in grade school and I ended up only having a Loyalty Award come graduation time in high school. Heck, I had the best time of my life! Never mind the grades, at least, I had true friends.

The reason why we never had a prom was because the school administrators had to teach us a "lesson". Our whole class had an impromptu after-retreat party in our class president's home. It was a spur-of-the moment decision in my part. My co-officers in the Student Government were part of it so I went straight to the nearest pay phone and called my mom to ask permission. My mom was cool about it as long as I had the money to bring myself to ParaƱaque. We had no class the following day because it was designated as our rest day. We were unaware that a classmate did not ask permission and it was her mom who called up the school authorities. The following school day was chaos. The class officers and student body officers were sent to the Principal's office and we were asked to give a explanation. They say that we can't have a prom because they cannot trust us anymore. I just laugh about it now that I remember it.

Not having to experience a prom night wasn't really a big issue for me. For one, you wouldn't catch me wearing a cocktail dress! Secondly, it spared us from the expenses. But the incident, apparently, did not allow closure to happen at least for some of us. We are scheduling a mini get together and some are suggesting of having a prom night! Oh please! I don't want to browse sites of the best diet supplements in the market today just to make me quickly lose weight for that. I find it amusing, though. I guess how we celebrate the event will not matter to me at all. I am just excited to catch up with everyone!

HS Get Together

I didn't have hesitations when Mel texted me one night and invited me to a get together of old high school classmates. Nazario was coming home from Bahrain and was getting married on the 26th. Last March, when Bench came home and we had an impromptu dinner with Mark and Nyor, I told them I seldom accept invitations from high school friends. You know how it is when old classmates meet and some would just brag about their "achievements" blah blah blah? I hate it when this happens. I don't know why I said yes to Mel but I had a gut feel that it would turn out fine.

It didn't. Last night turned out to be not just fine but GREAT! We were eight people all in all. Such a small group, but I think that's what made the difference. Nazario, Mel, Nyor, Mark, Eleanor, Leilanie, Daryl, and me spent the night chatting and laughing about old times.
I am glad I was with the right mix of people this time around. I wasn't really close to these people back in high school. I didn't have a barkada. I was too busy to have one. I had my choir, the student government, the clubs, and the CAT training going on. I guess if I had laid low a little bit I would have somebody to call my highschool bestfriend.
I was, somehow, able to catch up with what I missed. It made me think what kind of a classmate I was to them, then. For one, I didn't know that _____ and _____ were sweethearts!
We had dinner at Gerry's Grill Glorietta and sang our hearts out at Red Box in Greenbelt. Thanks to Nazario for this awesome treat! Hope he goes home often and wouldn't forget to call us up again. Hihihi!

AdUHS Batch 95

Haay naku, I spent my 2 days just sending a message to my batchmates in Friendster. Eh paano naman, may yahoo e-group kami, 27 lang ang members. Bouncing pa ang iba niyan ha. Sa Friendster, 70! Boohoo! Ayaw lang siguro nila ng spam.

Anyway, I invited them to join the e-group. I'm planning to organize an outreach that will sponsored by our batch in September. In time for the feast day of Saint Vincent de Paul. Patron saint kasi ng school namin. Para naman maiba. Hindi yung get together lang, ekek. Yun bang may sense naman. Hey! It's our tenth year, anyway. Awa ng Diyos, 4 pa lang ang sumuporta sa idea ko. God bless them!
