The Christmas season becomes the brightest season in the Philippines because of the well-lighted and decorated roads, establishments, and homes. Christmas lights are standard Christmas decorations in every home. In fact, Christmas lights shaped as a star or a Christmas tree are common sights in the country this time of year.



The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) also "lighted up" their Meralco compound for the holiday season. The company has opened its Meralco Liwanag Park last November 25, 2011 with no other than Miss Universe 2011 3rd runner-up and Meralco Ambassador of Light, Miss Shamcey Supsup, gracing the event.



Aside from the expected lighted attractions, Meralco has prepared a light show, a Christmas village, a night bazaar, and electric rides to its visitors. There's no entrance fee to visit the Meralco Liwanag Park but the company asks only a simple favor from its visitors and customers.



Begun in 2006, Meralco's Maliwanag and Pasko campaign serves as one of Meralco's channels for supporting various charities. This year, in line with the theme of love and light, the company's One Meralco Foundation supports at least 1,000 Filipino children's schooling. The company is asking for the public's support by just lighting up their homes with Christmas lights this holiday season. How easy is that?

On November 22, I and the other mommy blogger members of the Pinay Mommies Community will have a Grand Eye Ball. It's actually the 2nd year of the Grand EB but I wasn't able to join the first one because it coincided with an important family event. This year, I made sure that I'll be there because I want to meet the faces behind the mommy blogs that I have been reading. We have already been interacting with each other in Facebook that it feels that I already know them for a long time.

I've got a small problem, though. I still don't know what to give them. All of us were asked to bring tokens for everyone, if possible. It's already 10 days before our EB and I haven't prepared anything yet. If only I had a bigger budget, I could have already oredered from the online flowers site orderflowers.com. But since I can only afford Php 30 for each token, I might just have a some customized button pins made. Anyway, we have agreed that it's the thought that counts.

Men and women have different routines when it comes to grooming. In our household alone, my toiletries are different to that of my husband's. He prefers anti-bacterial soap while I love beauty bars. I vividly remember the blue tin can that made my mother's eyes gleam with joy back when I was a little girl. 500 kilometers in 5 days to save 500 lives. This is the challenge that is in store for the dedicated cyclists of the Tour of Hope 2011 which is happening starting on May 28, 2011. This year's Tour of Hope aims to raise funds for cervical cancer prevention vaccination drives and seminars. And yes, during the tour from Manila to Paoay, Ilocos Norte, 500 women will receive a vaccine against cervical cancer.


The Tour of Hope is organized by Bravehearts in partnership with Team David’s Salon and GlaxoSmithKline. As explained by Bravehearts prexy, Abbygale Arenas-de Leon, the tour aims to inspire women to take action against cervical cancer. The sad truth is, cervical cancer claims the lives of 12 women in the Philippines everyday. Meanwhile, Dr. Cecilia Llave who is Program Director of the Cervical Cancer Prevention Network (CECAP) explains that cervical cancer is highly treatable especially when diagnosed early. Not only that, living a healthy lifestyle and getting vaccinated helps in its prevention.

Since its start in 2008, The Tour of Hope has helped raise around 2 million pesos to help finance cervical cancer screening programs and lectures. Moreover, the event organizers have formed partnerships with local government units to conduct lectures during each stopover of the tour to local communities with marginalized groups who display poor health-seeking behavior.

Team David Salon led by David’s Salon owner David Charlton and Ms. Tessa Prieto-Valdes are well known supporters of The Tour of Hope. This year, Team David Salon will again join the fight against cervical cancer while Ms. Tessa Prieto-Valdes will organize a separate fundraising activity for Bravehearts.

The Tour of Hope 2011 - 500: Going the Xtra Mile Against Cervical Cancer will kick off at the TriNoma Mall in Quezon City on May 28, 2011 and its first stop is in Tarlac City. Then the cyclists will ride through La Union, Vigan City in Ilocos Sur, Laog City in Ilocos Norte, and finally in Paoay where the bikers will get to see the Paoay Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Bravehearts is a non-profit organization initially led by the Cervical Cancer Prevention Network (CECAP) for the Cancer Institute Foundation (CIF). It is dedicated to raising awareness on cervical cancer prevention and is supported by a growing number of women, including prominent personalities such as Abbygale Arenas-de Leon, who is the current president of the organization, Senator Loren Legarda, Pia Magalona, Ellen Tordesillas, Tessa Prieto-Valdes, Jeena Lopez, Maimai Davao, Joyette Jopson, and Suzi Entrata. Don't you know that there is a link between constipation and diabetes? Apparently, diabetics are more at risk of constipation. One factor for this is that high blood sugar levels have a damaging effect on the nerves of the intestinal walls. World Diabetes Day will be observed on 14 November 2010. Once again, the International Diabetes Federation spreads awareness about diabetes and asks everyone to take control of this life-changing condition.



Part of this year's activities is a fund-raising for the International Diabetes Federation's Life for a Child Programme and Insulin for Life, two global initiatives that provide life-saving diabetes medication and supplies to children in developing countries. This is the weekend I've been waiting for years now. Finally, we have gone home for the feast of Our Lady of Peñafrancia. We made the long drive home early this morning just to be able to witness the festive fluvial procession tomorrow. This year is very special since it's the tercentenary of Naga City's beloved Ina.


Since I am on fiesta mode, I left my diet-supplements research for a while just so I can enjoy the weekend. I had to leave the work at home so I can fully enjoy the sumptuous feast my sister-in-law is preparing for us. Just kidding! Of course, I'm still watching my diet even when I'm on fiesta mode. I can't afford a hypo/hyperglycemia attack this weekend, don't I?
