With each season that passes by there is a new opportunity to embrace new and fun trends. Sometimes trends are must-embrace fashion trends, where as others you may choose to ignore. Whether you’re opinionated about coming and going trends is up to you, but it’s always worth to look into what is popular in the fashion world. This season’s trends are all about patterns, color, and polka dots. Whether you choose to enjoy them is entirely up to you, but women’s wear is fiercer than ever. So instead of rolling your eyes at new trends that may not be your favorite, have fun with the trends you do like and enjoy them while you can. Prescription sunglases by Firmoo

I have astigmatism and I have been wearing prescription glasses since 2006. I feel nauseous when I don't wear my glasses and the only time I don't wear them is when I'm asleep.

The sunny days of summer are no exception. As much as I want to wear fashionable sunglasses to match my summer outfit, I can't. The least I can do is wear an over-sized pair of shades over my prescription eyeglasses. And every time I do that, I need to have someone to ask, "Halata ba? Mukha bang tanga?" (Does it show? Do I look silly?) But what can I do?

Sandals for the diabetic

I love sandals! Not only are they comfy but they also allow my feet to breathe. Then again, being a diabetic with sensitive feet, I just don't buy sandals on a whim. I have to choose carefully a pair that's not stylish but also practical for me to use.

Here are some things I consider in buying sandals for myself:

  • It must be comfortable. The soles and straps should be soft so that I'd not get corns and calluses that could be the start of serious wounds.  This is the reason why I often go for rubber sandals and not too much on leather ones.
  • There should be enough ventilation for my feet. I get sweaty feet especially in this hot weather. I don't want to have wounds from athlete's foot so I prefer open toed or open soled sandals.
  • They should be light. I do a lot of walking whenever I'm out of the house. Having light sandals makes walking easier and less tiring.

Being a diabetic makes me think thrice before heading on to the womens sandals section of the department store. It pays to choose wisely because having wounds, especially on the feet, is no simple matter.

Marielle is one lucky lady!

Diamonds are a girl's bestfriend. I heard a song with that line. Indeed, ladies love diamonds especially when it is given by someone special. Actress and TV host, Marielle Rodriguez, is currently the talk of the town and the envy of most girls because of the diamond ring given to her by Robin Padilla, The diamond ring was said to be worth 1.2 million pesos!






I wasn't able to watch the eLive episode that everyone is talking about since I attended a blog event last weekend. But I was able to watch this video and, I must admit, I was swept away by the Bad Boy of Philippine Movies! Oh my, he does know the way to a lady's heart. Then again, 1.2 million pesos for just one diamond ring is too much.

Ms. Rodriguez, you are very pretty and very lucky to have a handsome and lavish suitor! Hay...

Buying Shoes For The Big Boy

It's the time of the year when dads and moms in the Philippines get ready for school enrollment. This year, we are lucky that Ralph is on full scholarship. This means that we only need to pay the miscellaneous school expenses and school supplies. That will just be, give or take, 15 thousand pesos. I got it covered, thank goodness!

But aside from that, we also need to buy him a new set of pants, and a pair each of black school shoes and sneakers. He grows up so fast and his shoe size changes quickly, too. To limit my shoe shopping trips for my big boy, here are some rules of thumb that I follow when buying shoes for him:
1. We buy shoes in the afternoon and evening, usually after walking around the mall or after shopping for other things. This makes the feet a little bigger than usual and gives us an idea of the minimum shoe size that he should have;

2. We make him wear his thick school socks;

3. We make sure that he's still able to wiggle his toes inside the shoe; and,

4. We prefer quality over the price. Cheaper brands only last for a month or so.
Since my son rides the bus service everyday, I don't think I do not need to buy him rain boots anymore.

Sexy Corsets in the 2009 Oscars

Have you watched the 2009 Oscars? Well, I did not have the chance to watch it live because I was at work. I was able to catch the Red Carpet show done by E! though. I enjoyed seeing the stars walk on the red carpet and have been busy mentally comparing the gowns of the stars. I just noticed that most of the actresses wore gowns either topped with sexy corsets or bustiers. So it seemed that it is the "in thing" in Hollywood fashion at present. This could probably be because of the rise of period films this year in Hollywood. "Australia", "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", and "Revolutionary Road" are examples of these period movies.

My favorite corset gown of the night was the one worn by Penelope Cruz. Most critics did not like her nude colored gown on the red carpet but I think that it did well in highlighting her fabulous Latina tan. I did not quite like Sarah Jessica Parker's Cinderella inspired gown because I personally think that she's way mature for that. It would have been better if she was wearing Vanessa Hudgens' black corset mermaid gown and Hudgens wearing hers.

V-Day Plans?

Nope, I am not writing this to share our plans for Valentine's Day. Actually, I have only one concrete appointment during that day and that is to accompany my boys to the dentist. We have to go back to the dentist that day because they need to have their temporary fillings replaced. Our dentist was even hesitant to set the appointment because she thought that we will be out of town during the weekend but I gave her the go signal to put us on the list. Our Valentine's Day activities will probably depend on how long the dentist appointment will be.

Don't get me wrong, but it is totally fine with me. We don't usually celebrate Valentine's Day as special as other couples do. We just have a dinner date in a not so formal restaurant that would not require my boys to be in tuxedos and me in a gown. There were other V-nights when we just enjoyed peace and quiet, and maybe a bowl of popcorn and a great DVD, in the living room. For me, it's not how you celebrate the day but who you enjoyed it with that matters more.

Sunny Days Sweepin' The Clouds Away

Sunny days are here again! Haven't you noticed that lately? It was quite a disappointment for me because I am really enjoying the cooler evenings when we do not have to switch the airconditioner on. It saved me a lot of money last month. Imagine, our bill was down a thousand pesos!

Hotter days are a nuisance. At least to me because I leave the house for work in the afternoon. I realized yesterday how I needed my sunglasses when I went out my door and it almost broke my heart that I cannot find them. Actually, that pair has been with me for almost five years. I am used to wearing it outdoors on sunny days when the sunlight is too much for my eyes. I have prevented so many migraine attacks because of this pair. Now it's gone, or it could just be misplaced somewhere.

Because a pair of sunglasses is very important for me, I have done a little bit of window shopping for a new pair. I am eyeing a pair of Armani brown sunglasses because it looks casual yet classy. The price holds me back though and I just cannot afford it at this time. So for the meantime, and because it is so urgent, I would probably be settling for one with the same style but with a more inexpensive price.

A New Pair of Jeans for Christmas

Christmas time is here. For me, it's a time for updating my wardrobe. The season allows me to ask for a little bonus from my husband so I can buy new clothes. That's how poor I am. LOL! A little shopping allowance from the husband is a great Christmas gift, don't you think.

I have lost some weight after I started going to the gym to complement my weight loss plan. I'm proud to say that I lost a few inches around the waist! I plan to buy a few pairs of new jeans before the series of Christmas parties for the season starts. Last year, my husband's company Christmas party had the theme "Fab Christmas" and I wore a denim coat and a pair of skinny jeans that was so "in" that time. I hope the theme this year will allow me to wear jeans again.

In buying jeans, I consider the style, cost, and brand. Styles that I usually go for are straight-cut, slim, and flare. I use straight-cut jeans when I am wearing rubber shoes or flip flops. It gives me the rugged vibe. I wear slim jeans when I want to exude a semi-casual aura and when wearing blouses. Flare jeans I wear when I use high-heeled shoes.

Cost and brand go hand in hand, I think. I have my favorite brands because, over the years, I have tested them to complement my figure. I am five foot tall and more on the heavy size. It's very important for me to wear jeans that will make me look slimmer. Most of the times, weight related fashion problems for me are solved by wearing just the right style of clothes. I don't care much about the cost just as long as I consider it as a trusted brand. Anyway, I think my trusted brands fit into my budget.

I'll be scouting for new jeans soon. I hope I won't have a hard time looking for ones that will suit my taste, figure, and budget.
