Photobucket VS Flickr

VS

During my early blogging years, I chose to host photos on Photobucket. It's a free photo hosting service and I saved most of our digital photo files over there as online backup. A few months ago, I bought myself a Flickr Pro account and saved my high resolution photo files over there.

Most of my blogger friends who have their blogs hosted over at Wordpress use Flickr to host their photo files. Before, I thought that it would be impractical for me to buy a Flickr Pro acount just so I can save more photo files than usual. Now, I believe that I made a wise choice. Compared to Photobucket, Flickr saves photo files and stays true to their original photo quality. Actually, I think Flickr makes my photos even look brighter and more vibrant.

So, there. Flickr wins... for me at least. Having Flickr Pro makes the choice even more perfect.

Litratong Pinoy: Makapal (Thick)

Light is an important aspect in photography. In fact, the word "photography" originated from the Greek words "photos" and "graphein" which mean "light" and "writing" respectively. The pictures that we see are actually products of light written by our cameras.

My husband and I were quite challenged during our New Year's Day celebration at the Camsur Watersports Complex. Thick clouds hovered above the Bicol region since we arrived days before the New Year. It's probably because of Mayon Volcano's ash emissions.

We resolved our light problem not by using the flash but by maximizing the darkness that the thick clouds brought. It allowed us to shoot silhouette photos. The results were beautiful and dramatic. And the best thing about my silhouette shot is that it hid my love handles! Hahaha!

Lovin' Ms. D

You have seen her already but I haven't properly introduced her yet. Ms. D is our new Nikon D5000. My boys have thought of a lot of names before we finally settled on calling her as such. Yes, it's a she. Short of saying that I'm more of the owner than my husband, hahaha!

I'm still a newbie in DSLR photography but I started to read some tips on DSLR photography sites. Up to now, my shots are still amateurish but I now have quite a few that can be considered good. I'll attend my first photography class next weekend while my boy's on a school camping activity. Hopefully, my photography skills will be better after that.

A photographer friend once said, "It's the Indian, not the arrow." Meaning to say that it's the skill and not the gadget. Still, DSLR cameras have advantages compared to point and shoot digital cameras. With DSLR cameras, the photographer has the free hand on setting the right shutter speed, aperture, and exposure to come up with the effect that he or she wants.

I'm going to update you on how my lessons will go next weekend. For now, I'm leaving you with one of my few good shots. I'd be glad to read your thoughts about it.

love n peace

It's Here!

We finally bought the DSLR of our dreams. We got a Nikon D5000 that's just a notch below Nikon D90. Not bad for a beginner's camera, don't you think? We were supposed to get a D40 but our supplier told us that it's already phased out along with the D60.

I just tried shooting some shots this morning and I really have a lot to learn using a DSLR. It's very different from using a point and shoot camera because a DSLR provides so many options for the photographer. For instance, I can adjust the aperture and shutter speed to give the effect that I want in the photo. My husband has already given me the go signal to take basic digital photography classes by December. I upgraded my Flickr account to Pro, too so we can have an online storage for our photos. Ooh... and I think I will need to set up a photoblog for the husband soon.

I guess, the miscellaneous expenses that's linked to owning a DSLR never ends because we're saving up for more powerful lenses, too. No problem with me, I can be lavish when it comes to gadget. By the way, I'm not the type of girl who can spend thousands of bucks on Contemporary Jewelry but can do so without batting an eyelash when it comes to gadgets. Yep, that's how I am.
