Last December 14, 2009, I was invited to be a part of a group of bloggers who visited Glowcal Manufacturing Corporation's factory here in Cainta. Glowcal is the maker of KSA Magic and other beauty products such as Kojic and Sutla. The event was also an intimate meet-and-greet with KSA Magic's celebrity endorser, Ms. Gladys Reyes.
Ms. Reyes spoke about how KSA Magic products keep her skin smooth and flawless. She's really pretty and flawless, as you can see in the photo above. She's sweet and charming, too.
She and Glowcal Manufacturing Corp. owner, Ms. Elizabeth F. Perez de Tagle, introduced us to the real deal about KSA Magic. KSA Magic soaps are manufactured through the cold process method. Soaps made using the cold process method are better than the commercially-manufactured soaps because they retain the herbal extract oils and glycerin added to it. Glycerin is the ingredient that is vital in keeping moisture in the skin therefore maintaining its softness and suppleness. Plus, cold processed soaps do not need chemicals in order for them to maintain a longer shelf life.
As you can see, KSA Magic is made with all-natural herbal extracts from lemons, calamansi, and coconuts.
Special thanks to Iris of Pinay Ads for inviting us to this event. Please visit the Glowcal corporate website for more information about KSA Magic and business opportunities with Glowcal Manufacturing Corporation's products. You can also read more about the event from these posts:
I haven't done mine yet and Christmas is just nine days away! I'm in utter panic mode. I'm too swamped with work but I don't have the right to complain about these additional blessings, right? I'm going to start my Christmas shopping this weekend. Good luck to me and my gift recipients, har har har!
You know, shopping really is not much of a fun activity for me. I'd rather spend my time somewhere else that is not as crowded. But Christmas shopping and the crowd that goes with it are inevitable requirements of this season so I'd better comply. I'll just wear my comfy new Crocs so I can walk and walk for hours. By the way, I'm looking for a Naot shoes seller here in the country. These pairs are like Crocs but are much comfy and recommendable for diabetic feet. Let me know if you have recommendations.
When I bought my laptop in March, it came bundled with a Norton Anti Virus trial software that got me covered for free for 90 days. After that, I was prompted to buy a licensed version which I did not do for obvious reasons. One is that I find it too expensive to buy when I can opt to find a free anti virus software instead. My initial step was to download the latest free version of AVG but most of my blogger friends recommended that I switch to Avira. I did and, so far, I think it's doing good for me.
Other than the price, there are also other points I consider in looking for an antivirus software. Here are just some of them:
It should be light so as not to slow down the performance of my laptop;
It should also be an anti-spyware;
It should be able to scan, detect, and remove rootkits;
It should be able to detect threats from downloaded email; and
It should be able to scan, detect, and remove malware.
Did I miss out on some things? I'll appreciate if you have more tips to add. :)
The two industrial fans that we bought in 2006 are now starting to conk out and I'm getting frustrated. I thought industrial fans are supposed to be more durable than the less expensive plastic ones. The industrial fans are being used in the living room and in the dining room. Every time I try to use one, I need to get a fork to wind up its blades first to get it to move. Funny but totally frustrating, really.
I am thinking of buying a new fan but I won't waste my time in buying an industrial fan anymore. I think I'll buy the ones with plastic blades this time. At least they are easier to clean, lighter to carry, and are more affordable. It's a pity that I can't even have a Minka Aire ceiling fan because the ceiling in my living room is low. I'm left with no other option but to buy a standfan.
When I go malling at SM Megamall, I dare not walk the corridors of 5th floor Bldg. B. It's because I don't want to pass by the area of Family First. They have agents there who lure the unaware to sign up for a "raffle" and go to their office for a "seminar". Club Astoria agents employ the same scheming tactic.
My aunt-in-law and wedding godmother was tricked into signing up for a Club Astoria timeshare membership program. She and my mother-in-law attended a "buffet dinner" cum seminar where they were told about the perks of having a Club Astoria membership. My Tita Ops is a retiree, you see. She can travel anytime she wants to. So she thought that having a timeshare program with a hotel would be a wise investment.
So, after the dinner, the details of the timeshare program was explained to them. She was enticed by their tricky agents and became interested in signing up for a 30-year membership. However, she wasn't that decided yet as she was just interested in knowing more about the program.
After being explained to, one of the agents asked for her credit card and told her that they will just check on her credit status. She vehemently instructed them not to charge anything to her card but the Club Astoria people immediately charged 65 thousand pesos to her credit card. My tita's fault was that she signed the receipt. While we were talking to each other on the phone the following day after the incident, she related how she felt like being hypnotized by the agents. It was like "Budol-Budol" so she said. Thank goodness that her credit limit is worth 65 thousand pesos only or else these monsters could have charged the whole 100 thousand peso deposit on her card. My Tita is a senior citizen and is single. She was made confused by the agents who kept on talking non-stop.
The following day, when she called us up, we instructed her to go to her bank and change her credit card number. She also cancelled the contract she apparently signed. The bad news is, Club Astoria will only refund 45 thousand pesos and keep the 20 thousand peso "reservation fee". My tita's charging it to experience. Damn these scheming demons for taking advantage of an old innocent lady. That's part of her hard-earned retirement money so I bet they'll go to hell.
I have nothing negative about time share programs. My mom is a member of Pearl of the Pacific in Boracay and we have been using our privileges ever since. It's like staying in myrtle beach condos except that Pearl of the Pacific Boracay is not a condo. In fairness, Club Astoria is a legal business. The hotel is located in Ortigas, Pasig, and they have resorts in Boracay, Bohol, and Subic. I see nothing ugly about their accommodations and rates. What bugs me, on the other hand, is the manner of recruiting these Club Astoria agents are using. Try Googling "club astoria scam" and you'll see what I mean. So beware people, don't tell me I didn't warn you.
Laptops are out, netbooks are in. I saw this line from one online seller. Netbooks have become so popular this year that every computer brand his its own line of netbook series.
Before we bought my Lenovo Y330 in March this year, I was thinking of buying a netbook. First, my budget was only within the price range of netboooks. Second, I wanted a laptop that's light to carry when I'm mobile. My husband rejected the idea and offered to buy the laptop for me. He insisted that I needed a laptop more since my work is online. He said that a netbook will not be able to handle the bulk of my online work and that my computing activities will be too limited.
Now that I think about it, I thank him for proving his point. I got to realize what he meant more when I won a netbook in a blogging contest last August. Yes, netbooks have limited features. That's why we ended up giving the netbook to our son. I get to use it only when I'm away from home and I need to be online. Still, when I need to bring work with me to a coffee shop while doing mommy errands, I still bring my Lenovo.
Take this from me: netbooks are smaller, lighter, and more inexpensive but they are more suited for Internet surfing and light computing activities. It's good for a second laptop or if you already have a PC at home. Go for the laptop if you need to have bigger hard disk space, bigger memory capacity, and a DVD drive.
I think we've all read and heard it before: Cleaning up is a dirty job but somebody's got to do it. But I dread the thought that it's general cleaning time once again. Believe me, you can count on me to do every household task including those that include fixing appliances but it will take me weeks before I do a general cleaning. Don't get me wrong. I love a clean house but it's the dust that's turning me off. Expect me to have a wheezing cough after doing a general cleaning. That's what I don't want to happen. Once I get the cough, it will take months before my system totally gets rid it even with medicine and all.
My sister-in-law and her kids are coming over for the holidays from the UK so doing a general cleaning is inevitable. I have a male househelper who does almost everything in the house even the cleaning. But you know, and I know the ladies will agree with me on this, that it is totally different when girls do the cleaning. We ladies can really CLEAN! Besides, I rarely ask the houseboy to clean my stuff and that's the reason why my work area is the most cluttered place in the house and my husband can't do anything about it, haha!
During the occasional times when I do the general cleaning, I use a damp rag to wipe away the dust and mop away the floor. I don't have a vacuum cleaner yet but I think I will have to buy one. Probably, I can get a steam cleaner that is compact and lightweight but it's pricey and I still have to save up for that. The other day, I saw a gel-like cleaning tool in the hardware that worked like a blob sucking the dust from surfaces. The printed text on its cover says that the dust will stay inside the blob and it will not touch the cleaner's hand unlike when you use a regular rag. The name escapes my mind at this moment but it's a good option for me. I just hope that it's not that expensive.
Do you have cleaning tips to share for dust-allergic people like me?
I had the biggest scare of my life last week when I brought my son to the doctor. I brought him to have his lungs checked since he was having his cough for more than two weeks already. That day, he also started to have loose bowel movements. I thought that it was just the natural reaction of his tummy because I changed his meds from Solmux to Ascof Lagundi syrup. The doctor ordered a fecalysis done just to make sure. And there it was, printed in bold and all caps: POSITIVE FOR ENTAMOEBA COLI CYST.
The doctor was explaining the condition using the term e-coli so I felt concerned and surprised at the same time. E. Coli is something you wouldn't want to hear since it is associated with food poisoning. I was wondering how it got inside my son's intestines. He brings food to school and I prepare that every morning. We also drink distilled water at home.
The doctor explained that E. Coli is supposed to be part of the natural flora of the intestines and is generally considered harmless. However, it is associated with amoebiasis and other diseases. It should not be confused with the Escherichia coli, that is also called E. coli, that causes gastrointestinal infection, urinary tract infection, and neonatal meningitis.
Since Ralph needed to have antibiotics for his worsening cough, the doctor prescribed Co-trimoxazole to also tame the E. Coli in his intestines and regulate his bowel movements. It was effective, by the way, because the LBM was gone after his first co-tri dose. The only downside is, I had to set aside my plans of buying a USB drive to buy the antibiotics. :( Oh well, it's almost Christmas anyway and I'm sure a lot of companies will be giving out free Logo usb drives as give aways. Health should always be the top priority.
To date, Ralph is well and his cough is almost gone. He's also more conscious now in washing his hands not only before every meal but every time he feels that he has touched something dirty. I guess, he also got scared of the E. coli event he had. By the way, the doctor advised me to wash fruits and vegetables with baking soda dissolved in water before eating or cooking. She says it's effective in getting rid of bacteria.
I think the recent flooding is also to blame for what Ralph had since the doctor also related that there's rise of gastrointestinal infections among her patients at the moment. Seems that we can never be too sure of what's safe and what's not nowadays so we better be careful than sorry.
Aaaah! This is it! Can you imagine me jumping for joy? Finally, we're gonna buy a DSLR for Christmas. It's actually my husband's gift to himself as he's really the one who has the skilled eye in taking photographs. I'm still excited, though, because I will also get to use that for sure!
We're contemplating on buying a Canon or a Nikon. Most of my blogger friends use Nikon DSLR cameras. They even showed me where to buy one in Quiapo.I really am still a newbie when it comes to DSLRs and I'm not familiar with the techie terms listed in the specs of camera reviews.
We're actually leaning towards getting a Canon since our digital camera is a Canon and I find the brand very reliable. Our video camera is not a Canon, though, but a Sony. I have yet to try a Nikon gadget for me to trust the brand. Canon is more pricey from what I gathered but I don't want to scrimp on the cost and sacrifice the quality.
I initially thought that buying a DSLR is just an easy task. Now I know that there are lot of things to consider before getting one. Do you have any tips and suggestions? I would love to read some from you.
I received news that thieves went inside a blogger friend's home during the wee hours of this morning. I was worried about her safety and her family members as well. I can just imagine the horrible feeling she must have had with the thieves inside her home. Somehow, its a consolation to know that she and her family members are safe.
Every day, I watch similar news on TV and some of the incidents did not end up well. After the calamity, more stealing incidents surfaced and, as bad as this may sound, I am sure that more will happen as the Christmas season comes near. Do I feel safe in our own home? Yes and no.
I feel kinda safe because I have two big dogs and one is an American Pitbull Terrier. A street lamp is situated in front of our house and it helps us illuminate our area especially the cars parked outside. We live in a village and our village guards do not allow guests to go inside the village without permission from homeowners. But then...
I don't feel that safe because there has already been an incident of robbers going inside a neighbor's home last June. Last year, the rear view mirror of another neighbor's car got stolen. Although the village guards guard the gate and do their rounds nightly, some thieves still get in and out through the perimeter fence. What makes me more scared is that our town has been badly hit by the storm and that means more people needing money badly.
While I do not think that we already need to install a video surveillance equipment in our home, I still think that we need to reinforce our security measures here at home. That would include letting the dogs out of their cages at night. Never mind that my Bronson may pull the wild roses out from the soil. :( At least, we can sleep well knowing that thieves will think thrice about getting inside our property.
When I did my groceries last weekend, I noticed that there were a lot of people buying mattresses. They have probably thrown out their wet mattresses and replaced them with new ones. Most of them have bought cheap foam mattresses. I understand that the cheapest one will be the best choice at the moment. If I have extra money to spare, I would have bought an eco green mattress.
An eco green mattress is one that is made of organic and eco-friendly material. It is not only good for our health but it is also beneficial to the environment as well.
Here are some of the reasons why I wish to buy an eco green mattress:
It is hypoallergenic. Best to use if you are highly sensitive to chemicals. The materials used in this mattress is free from pesticides and other chemicals.
It is environmental friendly. No pesticides mean healthier soil and healthier resources for people living near the area where organic cotton farming is done.
It is stronger than non-organic mattresses. Chemical residues alter the quality of the materials used in mattresses.
It generates jobs for cotton farmers. Organic cotton farming mostly requires manual labor rather than using machines to do the job.
Eco green mattresses may be a more expensive choice but the benefits outweigh the monetary value here. I am saving up for an eco green mattress. I hope you consider saving up for one, too.
We all know that having a health insurance is a big help especially during times of sickness. Buying a health insurance nowadays does not only require one to have the money to purchase one. A health insurance buyer should also understand the different types of health insurance. For instance, a short term health insurance is different from a long term health insurance.
Both types of health insurances offer medical coverage should the plan holder gets sick. The only difference between these two is the period of coverage. Long term health insurance plans usually cost more but can cover a plan holder up to the time of death. Short term health insurance plans cover a plan holder from 6 to 12 months and costs less.
Most insurance buyers nowadays prefer to avail a short term health insurance because it gives them more flexibility. For example, a person who is in between jobs can avail of a short term life insurance so he can be covered while there is no company yet to give him full medical benefits.
Ask your insurance agent about short term life insurance plans for more information. Meanwhile, North Carolina residents can inquire about NC short term health insurance plans from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.

I think I'm gonna head out to the nearest Globe Business Center to have a look feel of this cutie. Now I know where to slip my new Globe Tattoo sim in! [insert Plurk evil_smirk emoticon here] Haha!
Clueless as I was, I still took the dare and sent an RSVP. Glad I did because Globe, literally, took us for a ride!
So there I was, dressed up casually because we were made to think that it was an oh so formal event. The invite said M Cafe at the Ayala Museum, after all. Us girls were giddy the night before and we were plurking about our outfit woes.
As it turned out, M Cafe only served as a holding room for the bloggers. Once we were all complete, we were told to go out because we will brought to the actual place of the event. They asked for volunteers to hide Harley Davidson bikes. I rode in the van, hahaha!
Even in the van, I was still clueless of where we were headed to. Although our manong driver showed us the map that showed our destination, I wasn't still able to related it to a Globe product.
We got off and walked inside Handle Bar, a bikers' bar. I felt ridiculous wearing my casual blouse and slacks! Goodness, if only they have told us earlier, I would have worn my maong jacket and jeans! Turns out, that was the total catch of the event. We were taken from the formal atmosphere of M Cafe to the rugged and rocking bikers' bar!
The event was all about Globe Tattoo Youniverse. First, we were introduced to the new Globe Tattoo Prepaid Sim Card that can now cover SMS sending and broadband internet service. We were also introduced to Globe Tattoo's website that they will be live early this week. The site is widget based which may be perfect for total social interaction with online friends. Aside from the Globe Tattoo website, Globe has introduced IMMORTALTXT. Now, Globe prepaid subscribers can enjoy texts with absolutely no expiry date as long as there is a one peso balance maintained. IMMORTALTXT lets Globe prepaid subscribers to send 50 texts to Globe or Touch Mobile numbers plus 10 texts to other networks! Just perfect for my boy as he is not really a heavy SMS user and his monthly load credits just ends up expiring. That means big savings for me, too!
I have yet to try the Globe Tattoo prepaid sim that they gave us during the event. I already have an existing Globe number so I guess I'll be giving it to somebody else. I will post updates once I get to try IMMORTALTXT and the Globe Tattoo website. If you are also a Globe subscriber, you can avail IMMORTALTXT by texting IMMORTAL to 8888 for free.
