Asian Hospital working toward a Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital

Committed to bringing quality health services to women and children, the Asian Hospital and Medical Center (AHMC) has been awarded the Certificate of Commitment as a Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital by the Department of Health Center for Health Development of the National Capital Region (DOH CHD-NCR).

The Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (MBFHI) is a global program of the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund being implemented by the DOH.

The program encourages hospitals to promote breastfeeding, especially during the first six months of life. Breastfeeding helps enhance an infant’s intelligence and provides protection from allergies, infections and illnesses.

MBFHI was launched in the country by the DOH pursuant to Republic Act 7600, otherwise known as the “Rooming-In and Breastfeeding Act of 1992.”

AHMC implements the MBFHI through its Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Pediatrics. The staff—both clinical and non-clinical—underwent training to better understand breastfeeding and its importance.

AHMC also offers family-oriented labor and delivery, allowing expectant fathers to accompany and support their wives while giving birth.

The certification is AHMC’s first step to become fully accredited by the DOH as a Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital. The hospital continuously offers quality maternity services, providing special care to mothers and their babies.
