Kung bibigyan ako ng bulaklak, mas gusto ko ang nakapaso at hindi iyong naka- bouquet na. Mahilig kasi akong maghalaman. Dati sa Laguna, lagi kaming namimili ng mga tanim sa Bay pagkagaling ko sa aking klase sa UPLB. Dito sa Maynila, mahal ang mga bulaklak, hindi ka makakakita ng presyong bente lang. Kaya halos lahat na ng mga tanim ko dito ay bigay ng mga kamag-anak. Mga pinutol anak-anak na lang ng kanilang mga halaman sa mga sarili nilang hardin. Tulad na lang ng larawan ng rosas na iyan sa itaas. Wild Rose daw yan at marami sa probinsya ng byenan ko sa Bacolod. Pasalubong niya ito noong umuwi siya noong nakaraang taon. Ang rosas na ito ay hindi tulad ng rosas na binibili. Sa isang tangkay ay maaaring 2 hangang 3 rosas ang mamumukadkad. Natuwa na rin ako kahit hindi siya long stem dahil suntok lang talaga sa buwan ang pagtanim namin dito. Sa katunayan nga, sa tatlong cutting na tinanim namin, isa lang ang nabuhay.
I prefer to receive potted plants than flower bouquets. It's because I am so fond of gardening. When we were still living, we would usually buy potted plants along the highway of Bay after my classes in UPLB. Plants are expensive here in Manila; you cannot find a potted plant within the twenty peso range. That is why almost all of my plants in my garden are from cuttings from the gardens of our relatives and friends. One of these is the rose plant in the photo. They told me that this is a Wild Rose and there are lots of these in my mother-in-law's province in Bacolod. She brought this back when she went for a vacation last year. This rose is not like the long stemmed variety that we buy in flower shops. Two to three flowers can blossom on one stem. The survival of this plant was quite unexpected. Actually, it is the lone survivor among the three cuttings we planted.
